HOW MUCH DO YOU CHARGE FOR YOUR COPYWRITING SERVICES?

I price each project individually since no two projects are exactly alike. Pricing is based on a range that depends on the volume and complexity of a project, the level of expertise and the estimated time it will require. My rates are fair and competitive. You can see my price list by downloading my info pack. Keep in mind that I usually include some volume discount in my quote, so be sure to request your free, no-strings attached quote here.  

WILL YOU GIVE ME A QUOTE BEFORE THE WORK BEGINS?

Absolutely! Your quote and proposal will include a preliminary market study and creative direction, the specific deliverables I will produce for you, each step in the production cycle, including all the feedback loops, the timeline for delivery and your firm project quote, so there is absolutely no misunderstanding between us. 

WHAT ARE YOUR PAYMENT TERMS?

I require a 50% deposit up front for most copywriting projects. The balance is due upon project completion. Larger projects may have additional payment milestones. The payment schedule will be included in the quote. Credit terms may be negotiated with repeat clients. 

WHAT TYPES OF PAYMENT DO YOU ACCEPT?

I accept company checks (FED-EX or DHL), wire transfers from your bank to mine, whether your bank is within the U.S. or outside the U.S, or online credit card payments. We will agree up front on your preferred payment option. Bank information or link to online credit card payment will be included in your invoice.  

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR WRITING STYLE?

The ‘T” in SMART copy is for “tailored”. That’s why my tone and vocabulary is always specifically tailored to your industry, your brand, your audience and the piece I’m writing. Generally though, I favor a light, conversational tone, mid-level vocabulary, clear and crisp sentences. Mostly though, I write for results, always towards a clear objective. 

DO YOU MEET WITH YOUR COPYWRITING CLIENTS?

I live and work in Haiti, so meeting with clients in person is usually not possible. Thankfully with technology, we can communicate anytime by phone, Whatsapp or email. I am always available for a conference call with your team. 

WILL I HAVE TO SIGN A CONTRACT?

Yes. Your quote and proposal includes a standard agreement form with the scope, deliverables, timeline and payment terms, that you must sign and return to me to formalize the hiring process.

WHAT COMES FIRST, DESIGN OR COPY?

It depends on where you are in the creative process. If you are already working with a graphic or web designer and the layout has been created, I will work within it. If You’re starting with the copy, I can make layout suggestions, especially when it comes to indicating the copy that needs to stand out for the designer. 

Which ever comes first in your case, it’s always a good idea for your copy writer and designer to work together. Remember that a core part of my 10 years in marketing and communication was to coordinate the entire production cycle, so I am very used to working with designers to develop the best marketing tools for our clients. 
 

IN WHAT FORM WILL YOU SUBMIT YOUR COPY?

I’ll provide the copy to you in MS Word sent via email.  The document will be formatted in a table to reflect the layout sections of the web page or brochure. The text will be formatted to indicate titles, sub-titles, bold highlights, and call out boxes. Your web designer/developer or graphic designer will place the copy onto the web page or artwork.
 

For SEO web pages, the table for each page will have rows for the meta tags (page title and description) with the keywords for which the copy is optimized, which your developer will insert into the coding.
 

WHAT HAPPENS IF I DON’T LIKE THE FIRST DRAFT OF COPY?

In step 5 in the process, after the market and competition research, I email you a creative brief with the positioning strategy, outline, and top line messaging. Remember, you will have to approve it. This crucial step ensures that the first draft is pretty close to what you were hoping for. 
 

Of course the first draft is only a starting point. Your initial feedback helps me refine the copy and write a second draft that’s more on target. This feedback/revision stage continues until you are satisfied. 
 

WHAT HAPPENS IF THE COPYWRITING PROJECT EVOLVES, GROWS IN SCOPE?

Your quote and proposals will list all the parameters: scope, deliverables, time frame, etc.  If during the production process, the scope and deliverables change, then we’ll discuss any adjustment to the budget. I’ll give you a revised quote so you will know and approve up front any additional cost. I’m fair and expect that you will be too.

WHAT IF I ALREADY HAVE A ROUGH DRAFT AND I JUST NEED HELP WITH COPY EDITING?

Yes I provide article rewrite services. Email me what you have. I’ll give you recommendations for improvement and a quote for me to do the copy editing. Find out more here

OTHER THAN COPYWRITING, WHAT IF I ALSO NEED HELP WITH WEB DESIGN, GRAPHIC DESIGN, OR VIDEO PRODUCTION?

No problem! As a former agency project manager, and project manager for USAID, coordinating marketing projects is one of my specialties. I can recommend you to a number of talented and trusted vendors. And, if necessary, I can coordinate with that vendor to give you a quality finished product.

 HOW SOON CAN WE GET STARTED, AND WHAT IS YOUR TURNAROUND TIME?

We can start right away with our first call.  I try to schedule calls within 3 days of the request, and send you the quote and proposal within 5 working days after that.

 

Once you've officially hired me, the project turnaround time depends on a number of factors: what projects I’m currently working on, what the deadlines are, how much product and market information you already have, how big your project is, etc. However, I do my best to give fast turnarounds and meet deadlines. The production timeline will be included in your proposal.

 

If your project has a tight deadline, please let me know up front. I try to accommodate last minute requests and tight deadlines whenever possible, but ll tell you right away if I can't deliver within your time frame.

 WILL YOU SIGN A NON-DISCLOSURE AGREEMENT AND/OR A NON-COMPETE AGREEMENT?

Yes.  You can provide those documents and I will sign them.  Your proprietary company and product information is always kept secure and confidential. I pride myself on being highly ethical, so I would never intentionally do anything that could harm a client’s business or compromise a client’s trust in me.  

IF I HIRE YOU TO WRITE COPY FOR ME, WHO OWNS THAT COPY?

You own free and clear the copyright on any copy that you’ve hired me to write for you. You can use it any way that you’d like, for as long you like. You can reuse it on as many materials as you’d like. This will be indicated in the agreement.
